Bangladesh's Dream Bridge Padma Bridge Opens To Traffic!
Jun 28, 2022

On June 25, 2022, the banks of the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh were jubilant. This "Dream Bridge" built by the China Railway Bridge Bureau flew over the Padma River, and the moat finally changed.

To celebrate this historic moment, Bangladesh held a grand opening ceremony of the bridge in Mawa at 10 am local time. Liu Jianhua, deputy general manager of China Railway Bridge Bureau and project manager of Padma Bridge, presented the Padma Bridge model to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the ceremony on behalf of the construction party. After the ceremony, Hasina personally unveiled the Padma Bridge.

It took eight years to overcome difficulties. As an international project, the study and understanding of technical standards is an important guarantee for solving manufacturing problems. Since September 2014, the technicians of Zhongtieshan Bridge have devoted themselves to research, and successively mastered the technical terms, compiled the manufacturing plan and process documents and other materials to ensure the smooth progress of the bridge manufacturing. The production unit and project department have successively overcome world-class manufacturing problems such as non-porous integral joint assembly, ultra-thick plate welding, ultra-large 3D three-dimensional trial assembly, 3,200-ton longitudinal and lateral movement of the entire span, and created another miracle in the world's bridge manufacturing.

The most difficult, ultra-thick welding. It has achieved an innovative breakthrough in the welding technology of ultra-thick plates, which is the most difficult "jamming" in bridge manufacturing. The number of steel plates with a thickness of more than 70 mm in the Padma Bridge accounts for 27.58% of the steel plates of the whole bridge, far exceeding the proportion of bridges of the same type in China. The main truss joints of the bridge are all welded integral joint structures, and all the rods are connected by welding.

On November 7, 2015, the first 50-ton gantry crane on the Padma Bridge site was put into use.

On March 28, 2016, the first top chord node member of the Padma Bridge was officially cut.

On June 17, 2016, the first round of steel truss beams was sent to Bangladesh.

On August 25, 2016, the assembly of steel truss girder on site in Bangladesh began.

On November 3, 2016, the first-span steel truss beam was erected.

On September 20, 2017, the first steel truss girder of the Padma Bridge was delivered.

On June 30, 2018, the erection of the first steel girder of the Padma Bridge was completed.

On November 4, 2020, the three-dimensional assembly of the steel truss girder of the Padma Bridge was completed.

On November 26, 2020, the finish painting of the steel truss girder of the last span of the bridge passed the inspection, and the on-site assembly and production of the 41-span steel truss girder was successfully completed.

On December 10, 2020, the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh was successfully closed.

On June 25, 2022, the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh was successfully opened to traffic.
